Yorkshire Stone Aged Elegance Hall Table with a Secret - no longer available

This lovely old occasional table is much bigger than it looks and will be perfect as a sofa or hall table in someones home. She was a bit of a wreck when we got her, the top was in two and needed some remedial work to make her rock solid again, this meant replacing some dowels, clamping and gluing, some of the things you have to do when refinishing vintage pieces, she is such an unusual piece she was well worth saving. Our inspiration for her paint job came from her original state of neglect and the aged pictures we have been working on, made to look as if left in an attic and forgotten for years, we wanted to see if this would translate to a piece of furniture and we think it has.

Her base is painted in a textured Yorkshire stone with touches of Fresco, chocolate, duck egg, nymph and midnight, a real collaboration to create the aging. Top coats have been finished in dark wax, Yorkshire stone tinted wax and clear wax and a tiny touch of gilding. The key hole had long gone leaving just a hole, we have replaced this with a vintage key plate, and added some raised stencil details with chalk paste in our favourite colour English Country.

And did you check all the photos to the end? Her secret is a lift up lid with compartments underneath, you would never know they were there! What a surprise, fantastic how some of these piece were made in the past and so satisfying to make them "new" and appealing again.
